The 2011 annual conference will be held December 2nd and 3rd in Chamberlain at the Cedar Shore Resort. Please mark your calendars! Registration form is above. This year's speaker is Dr. Richard Gasaway with THE GOOD, BAD & UGLY; MISTAKES AND BEST PRACTICES IMPACTING FIREFIGHTER SAFETY.
Objectives: Participants will learn about ten mistakes leading to firefighter casualties (and then what to do fix them), Among the topics to be discussed are:
- How repetitive training can kill first responders
- Why giving everyone a radio can be one of the worst thing you can do
- The critical first 12 minutes after arrival
- How standard operating procedures can be good and bad
- How mistakes can creep into your organization and you’ll never see them coming.
- Why recommendations from line-of-duty death reports aren’t working
- And more…
Target Audience: The primary target audience is firefighters, training officers and command officers but the lessons are quite universal to anyone operating in a high-risk environment.
Abstract: The presenter will share lessons gleaned from his review of hundreds
of firefighter near-miss and casualty reports and share surprising information about how your organization may have fundamental flaws in your training and fireground operations – and you don’t even know it. There are going to be some serious take-away lessons you won’t want to miss so bring a note pad!
Please note: You need to make your reservations at Cedar Shore Resort no later than November 2nd, 2011 to get the conference rate of $77.00. You do not need to be a member of the SDFCA to attend this conference.
